Teague's 3YOs qualify

April 18, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Trainer George Teague Jr. took a big step toward the 3-year-old pacing colt season by winning qualifiers with Funny Bones (1:56), Allamerican Karnak (1:57), Whats Up Now (1:55.4) and Mattdultery (1:56.1) Wednesday morning at Rosecroft Raceway.

The biggest of Teague’s winners was undoubtedly Whats Up Now, a colt by western Hanover out of Beach Guest. He won by 17 ¼ lengths with Teague in the bike. The colt only needed a :29 final panel.

Last year Whats Up Now earned but $35,621, but he impressed Teague. In The Horseman And Fair World’s “Top Picks” from pacing trainers story that was published on April 11, Teague noted that “Whats Up Now made two breaks in the Niatross and was out most of the mile, and he still won although they placed him back. But in return he did some wonderful things and I expect big things out of him.”

Teague’s colt Mattdultery, who he did predict would be among the top 10 pacing colts for the 2007 season, won his qualifier easily, scoring by five lengths with a :28 last quarter.

Funny Bones, a Grinfromeartoear colt, sprinted home in :28.1 for his victory and Allamerican Karnak, a son of Artiscape, coasted home a four-length winner.
