The tandem of Ben and Mario Baillargeon once again dominated the General Brock Trotting Series for 4 year olds on Sunday afternoon at Woodbine as they captured two of the three divisions that went postward. The pair had swept all four divisions in the first leg last weekend.
Jilted Pride took the field gate to wire in the opening $20,000(C) split for driver Mario Baillargeon in 1:59.2 over a track rated three seconds off. The son of Angus Hall-Taylor Seelster turned back Play Fair and Perfect Hope for his third win in seven tries this season.
The Ben Baillargeon trainee returned $5.80 while increasing his seasonal earnings to just over $109,000 for C Tremblay Holding Inc., Frank Cirillo and Denis Robidoux Inc.
In the second division, Lexis Amigo took advantage of a perfect inside trip and then shook loose late to score by a length in 1:59.2. The son of Amigo Hall-Lexus Hall upended the betting entry of Winters Jewel and McPride for his second victory in six tries this year.
Norm Dunstan of Caledon Village, Ont., owns and trains the trotter who returned $3.70 as the bettors' choice. The win vaulted him over $121,000 in career earnings.
Team Baillargeon came back to capture the final division with heavily favored Homer Jay who rallied from off the pace to score in 1:56.4. The son of Muscles Yankee-Miss Misti Girl got up in the final strides to nip American Hot Rod with Good Luck Penny rounding out the top three.
It was the third win in seven starts this year for Homer Jay who tallied as the even-money top choice. The win boosted his career bankroll to just over $150,000.
