Hambletonian eligibles swept all three divisions of the opening round of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack.
One of last season's top freshman, Break The Bank K won his first start for new driver and trainer Trond Smedshammer in the second of the $20,800 divisions. After a tepid stroll through the half in 1:00:3, Break The Bank K moved up to challenge race leader Flex The Muscle on the final turn. The two slugged it out in the stretch, and Break The Bank K pulled away to a length victory over the Dexter Cup winner in 1:56.3. Senor Glide was a distanced third. Break The Bank K paid $3.20.
Break The Bank K, a son of Revenue, is now 7-for-15 lifetime. Richie Gillock trained the colt during his successful 2-year-old campaign, in which he won $236,910. His owner, Robert Key of Leechburg, PA, won the 1993 Hambletonian with American Winner.
In the first division, I've Got It All showcased a big stretch kick to catch the leader and claim victory in 1:55.4 for driver Tim Tetrick. The colt by Muscles Yankee is now 3-for-4 lifetime for trainer-owner Peter Kleinhans.
In the final division of the New Jersey Sire Stakes, Temple Of Doom won his 3-year-old debut handily in 1:54.3 under the guidance of Tim Tetrick. The Yankee Glide colt is trained by Jonas Czernyson and owned by Robert Rosenheim Stables. All three colts are eligible to the $1.5 million Hambletonian on Saturday, Aug 7. (Meadowlands)
