Terrific ten at Hoosier

April 26, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The field of 10 older pacers appears to be set for this Saturday's $200,000 Dan Patch Invitational at Hoosier Park. Although it looks to be an evenly-matched field, the headliner is Maltese Artist based off his world-record performance in the opening round of the Classic Series at Dover Downs April 18.

In that race, Maltese Artist paced in 1:48.3, the fastest mile ever clocked over a five-eighths mile oval. He has four wins and four seconds this year, earning $191,675 for owners George Leon, John Howard and Jim Koran.

"Obviously, his last race was outstanding," trainer Mickey Burke has been quoted as saying. "We're going to the dance. I think he's got more in the tank, especially on a bigger track."

Also expected in the Dan Patch is the $1.6-million winning Life Source, who was second by a head to Maltese Artist in the Classic and won the $108,600 Presidential at the Meadowlands in February. Streaking Canyon Wind, who has been beating the best at the Meadowlands in recent weeks, will also make the ship to Indiana.

Whosurboy, who won the Spring Championship final at Woodbine, and the Michigan-bred millionaire Admiral's Express, will also start in the Dan Patch.

The Dan Patch Invitational is scheduled as the ninth race on the Hoosier Park card. Estimated post time is 9:41 p.m.

Probable Dan Patch starters (drivers):

Admiral's Express (Brad Kramer)

Canyon Wind (David Miller)

Casimir Camotion (Patrick Lachance)

Eaton Road Kill (Daniel Dube)

Escape The Wind (Roger Mayotte)

He Wants It All (Tom Harmer)

Johnny Be Cool N (Don Irvine Jr.)

Life Source (Ryan Anderson)

Maltese Artist (Ron Pierce)

Whosurboy (Ricky Macomber Jr.)
