Terror Time scares up a win

May 01, 2010 | Print View

Terror Time positioned himself for a sweep of this year’s Ontario Spring Series for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers with an authoritative victory in Friday night’s second leg at Woodbine Racetrack.

The other split went to High Net Worth who finished second in leg one of the series. That speedy colt turned in an eye-catching rally to capture the first $20,000 division for driver Paul MacKenzie in 1:53.1. The son of Royal Mattjesty used a blistering :26.1 final quarter to easily overhaul pacesetting Businessorpleasure by 1-1/2 lengths with Tigers Mattjesty rounding out the top three.

"“Last week, I got gapped out quite a bit but he paced strong right to the wire,” said winning driver Paul MacKenzie of his tenth to fourth effort. “Tonight now, he was a little closer and he paced again right
down to the wire. Yeah, he’s got a good kick to him.”

High Net Worth kicked back a win ticket worth $5.50 to his backers. It was the third win in eight starts this season for the John Ciarpelli trainee who is owned by Anne Della Maestra and Faye Antoniou of Ontario. The winner’s share of the purse bumped his career total to just over $40,000.

In the second division, Terror Time extended his current win streak to three with a sparkling first-over win for driver Mark MacDonald in 1:51.4. The gelded son of Western Terror - Hatchery idled up to leader Fresh Herb at the three-quarters and then put the hammer down in the stretch, winning by 2-1/4 lengths, with a :26.2 final panel, over a closing Mambo Italiano with Golden Terror landing the show spot.

“He’s a nice colt, what else can you say,” said driver Mark MacDonald. “Last week, he got towed up into it - got a nice trip. Tonight, he had to do all the work himself first over. We just kind of came nice and
slow and rated him the best we could. He just kicked away. He was good.”

The Shawn Robinson pupil has now won four of 10 starts this season for owners Ian Fromowitz of Ontario and Gerrie Tucker of Quebec. He returned $4.50 as the bettor’s choice while bumping his earnings up to just over $40,000 lifetime. (WEG)
