Ohio horseman Terry Holton, 66, died this morning after a long battle with cancer. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Holton trained such notables as Playboy Hanover, Clever Napoleon, Crown Ridge, world champion OK Dick and Oil Tycoon.

A winner of 1,703 races and $4.7 million in purses as a driver, Holton was born in Newark, Ohio, where he lived his entire life. Holton based his stable in Ohio and won driving titles at Scioto Downs.

Holton's outgoing personality and big smile made him a favorite of public relations directors at Scioto Downs and at other tracks where he raced.

Holton first learned he had pancreatic cancer in 2004 and was given a poor prognosis, but by the summer of 2005 had returned to the sulky to train. Holton bounced back to health and even drove in a race, a feat that prompted his many friends to call him “the Miracle Man."
