Phil Terry has been hired as interim manager of the Delaware County Fair effective July 1, 2008. Terry will continue to serve as director of marketing for the Delaware County Fair and the Little Brown Jug.
“Phil’s longtime service as a a fair director, past president of the fair board and chairman and vice-chairman of several sub-committees, will serve him well in his new position,” said Kent Hastings, president of the Delaware County Fair Board. The board of directors of the Delaware County Fair Board-Agricultural Society unanimously approved Terry’s appointment at the monthly meeting, June 18. “We have a great staff and board of directors who will help me. The 2008 fair will be a success because of them,” Terry said. Gary Must, the current fair manager, is retiring on June 30 but will remain as an active volunteer in several capacities. Terry received a President’s Award earlier this year from the U.S. Trotting Association for decades of exemplary service to harness racing. Terry has gone from directing traffic at the Little Brown Jug while in college at Ohio Wesleyan University, to becoming director of marketing three decades later. Major projects under Terry’s direction have included simulcast expansion, the creation of the Jug Future Pool, and working with Lavern Hill on construction of the Jugette Barn. Terry, who married Katie McNamara in 1975, also helped his father-in-law, Harold McNamara, with his stable of horses that raced under the Sea-Mac Farm banner. (Little Brown Jug)
