With wins in the first two races at Harrah's Chester Monday afternoon, Tim Tetrick increased his record-setting victory total in 2007 to 1,102, and he also became the all-time leader in single-season drives as he broke Herve Filion's previous mark of 4,356 drives in 1988.
Tetrick, who turned 26 on Thanksgiving day, has shattered several driving records this year. With purse earnings approaching $17 million, he surpassed the previous mark held by Brian Sears in early November. In November he won a record 121 times, breaking his previous monthly record of 120 set in June. Two days before his birthday he won his 1,078th race to surpass Walter Case Jr.'s previous mark of 1,077 wins set in 1998.
Tetrick's first win Monday at Harrah's Chester--in drive 4,356 this year--came with the 1-5 favorite Desmet, who led wire to wire in a late-closing pacing event to score in 1:55. Tetrick came right back in the second-race trot--in his record 4,357th drive this year--to win with the 7-2 second choice Classy Dreamer, who rallied from sixth early on and successfully moved three wide approaching the final turn to draw clear by open lengths to cross the wire first in 1:59.3.
Filion led the continent in wins in 1988 with 798 trips to the winner's circle from those 4,356 drives. When Case won his then record 1,077 races in 1998, it took him 2,993 drives.
