Harnessracing.com has learned driver Tim Tetrick's hip replacement surgery Monday morning at the Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia was a success. The surgery was needed to correct a degenerative hip condition that left the 27-year-old Tetrick with a limp and in constant pain; Tetrick had planned originally on having both hips replaced but on Monday only had the right one done and has delayed the second surgery on his left hip until late 2009.
Tetrick won his final drive of 2008 at Dover Downs Sunday night, capturing win number 902 of the year with Gunsmoke Spur. Combined with his record 1,189 victories last year, Tetrick has 2,091 trips to the winner's circle over the past two seasons. Setting the record for wins last year as well as earnings, he increased his purse-earnings total this year to $19,749,191. His two-year earnings stand at $38 million.
It is expected that Tetrick will be sidelined approximately eight weeks as he recovers from the surgery.
