Southwind Tempo and Wild West Gal, both driven by North America’s leading driver, Tim Tetrick, won James M. Lynch Memorial Pace eliminations on Saturday at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. Tetrick, who had four wins through the first seven races, came second-over down the backside with Southwind Tempo to take control and then stop the timer in 1:50.4, just three ticks off the track mark of 1:50.1 for a 3-year-old pacing filly. This was the sixth win in seven starts in 2007, and nine-of-10 lifetime for the Steve Elliott-trained 3-year-old filly. Finishing second to Southwind Tempo was Western Graduate (Tony Hall), with third going to Elusive Prey (Joe Pavia Jr.). Fourth in this race was Betting Machine (Mike Simons), while fifth went to Wild N Wonderful (Eric Goodell). In the second division of the Lynch eliminations, that carried purses of $31,329, Tetrick came up the passing lane to score with Wild West Gal, in 1:53.3. George Teague Jr. trains Wild West Gal, a winner of two of five starts this season. Omen Hanover (Sean Bier) was second to Wild West Gal, with third going to Yasmeen Blue Chip (Tom Jackson). The fourth-place finisher was Yankee Lacey (Mike Simons), with the fifth-place finisher being Dragon Flier K. The top four finishers in each division advanced to next Saturday’s final, with the ninth horse in the field being Willd N Wonderful, with an individual time of 1:52.1. The time for Dragon Flier K was 1:54. (Pocono Downs)
