December 19, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The temperature reached into the 60s setting up an always fast race day at Dover Downs and 7-1 Maximum Viking pulled a 1:52.1 surprise in the $33,500 pace on Monday. High Calibre N would not be denied in the $30,000 Delaware Special and 13-1 Next Flight pulled a stunner in the $25,000 Open Pace. Tim Tetrick added to his meet-leading total making five trips to the winner's circle. Jim Morand and David Miller had triples.

Cacamese, Knight, Friedland and LeBlanc Racing's Maximum Viking kept his impressive record since opening day intact for his third win of the meet with two seconds and a third in six outings. Jim Morand left from the rail then yielded to Fake DeNario N and David Miller on the first turn. Fake DeNario N continued to lead the way until late in the stretch when Maximum Viking out stepped him in the final strides after a: 28 last quarter. Driven To Win was a strong third with Dream Rocket and Tony Morgan racing on the outside without cover for the final three quarters to finish fourth.

Steve LeBlanc trains the Indiana-bred altered son of $1 million-winner HiHo Silverheels who has won seven times this season for $160,841 in purses.

Greg Simendinger's High Calibre N went right down the road shaking off several challengers along the way to notch a personally fastest 1:52.1 win in the $30,000 Delaware Special. Make A Success made a big move for Miller around the final turn but could not wear down the leader missing by a neck. Cool Flying Fun and Corey Callahan was third best. The sixth win of 2006 pushed the Fake Left gelding into six figures this season recording $104,082 in purses this year.

For the second consecutive Monday, Next Flight exploded around horses turning for home and romped to a second-straight 1:51.4 victory in the $25,000 Open Handicap Pace. Morand drove the Shotgun Scott gelding for Henry Faragalli Jr. and III, Bell Bauman and trainer Del Cote to his eighth success of the season raising his bankroll for the year to $113,460 for the former Maryland Standardbred Breeders Association champion. Quick And Deadly with Morgan came on to be second. Midnight Walk and Ross Wolfenden was third.

Hincapie Hanover, driven by Miller for owner Bob Collins, lowered his career fastest clocking to 1:50.1 turning back veteran Dreamfair Titan (Tetrick), second, and Real Good Thing (Wolfenden), third, in an $18,500 Winners-Over pace.

In a second $18,500 division, Tetrick won his fifth race on the card directing Fred and Anita Fialkow's King Tutpankhamen to a 1:53.2 triumph. Beware Beret (Wolfenden) closed to finish second while third place went to Xlb Joker (Miller).

Gary and Barbara Iles homebred Badlands Hanover 3 year old Lather Machine, fresh from winning the Battling Brad at Chester Downs last week, destroyed a field of eight in 1:50.2 to win the $18,000 winners-over pace with meet leading driver Tetrick in the bike. Black Reef N (Miller) was a distant second. Prince Of Luck (Wolfenden) was next.

Armbro David, owned by Wilson and Jeff Clark and Vern Cannon, out gamed The Other Cheek (Miller) to win the $15,000 3-4-and-5-year-old pace in a lifetime best 1:51.4. Wyatt And Me (Jim King) was the show horse.

Miller's big night continued when Dragondotcom notched a 1:52 score in a $40,000 claiming allowance. Jiffy Popcorn (Morand) was a close second. Mattnifesto (Toby Lynch) took third.

Miller also guided Fred Hertrich and Green Racing's SF Supreme around horses at the three quarter to then open up for a 1:52.2 victory in a $30,000 claiming allowance. McCabe Hall (Tim Curtin) and Jason William N (Lynch) were second and third, respectively.

Print It, owned by former Minnesota Twins World Series winning manager Tom Kelly, teamed with Frank Milby thundered down the lane to nip Bettor Watch Him (Miller) at the wire in 1:53.1 to win a $13,500 male pace. Vantastic Wizzard (Morand) took third money. (Dover Downs)
