Driver Tim Tetrick went home to Chicago Tuesday night, drove in six races, and snagged the big one on the card, taking the $120,000 Lady Lincoln Land Stakes Final with Gloria Wyoming, a 2-year-old filly trotter sired by Wilson Wyoming.
Owned by Joe and Guy Dimaggio and Shaun Phillips, Gloria Wyoming made every call a winning one in 1:59.2.
The Ken Collier-trained miss headed straight to the front from post position six and was comfortably in front as she trotted an opening panel in :30.2. After that soft opening split, the action began to heat up heading to the half-mile mark. So Sexy (Dave Magee) was leading the charge while first-over, and she was just a half length behind Gloria Wyoming as she sped past the halfway station, in :59.4.
Despite being headed briefly on the final turn, Tetrick still had Gloria Wyoming in front by a head over So Sexy as they ladies reached the three-quarter-mile mark in 1:30.
Seemingly able to find a gear that no others could match, Gloria Wyoming sprinted away from her rivals in the lane. Effortlessly opening a 6-˝ length lead at the midstretch call, Gloria Wyoming looked like she was out for a stroll in the park as she reported home in :29.2 to win by five, easy lengths.
Cardinal Speedy (Brent Holland) rallied late to be the bridesmaid, while Guilty Pleasures (Ryan Anderson) was a distant third.
Campaigned mainly on the Illinois fair circuit throughout the summer, Gloria Wyoming, a $1,500 yearling buy, now boasts a record of seven wins and two seconds in 13 career starts, with earnings of $75,861. (Balmoral Park)
