Tim Tetrick got tuned up for the Elitlopp by winning a race at Solvalla racetrack in Stockholm on Friday afternoon, scoring with the 4-year-old mare Tempting Kemp in only his third drive of the day, and there was a surprise for him when he got to the winner's circle.
Tetrick, 28, was greeted in the winner's circle by old friends from his hometown in Illinois, who unbeknownst to him, made the trip to Sweden to watch him compete.
Tetrick won with Tempting Kemp after finishing eighth in race two on the Solvalla card and seventh in the race three. Tempting Kemp was a medium-priced winner, but is trained by Timo Nurmos, the leading trainer at Solvalla this year. Tetrick took the lead with the mare after the quarter and kept a consistent speed through the middle portion of the mile before escaping from the field for the win.
Tetrick will also be driving on the big Saturday card at Stockholm before climbing in the sulky behind Buck I St Pat for the Elitlopp on Sunday.
