Tetrick wins record 120 times in June

Tim Tetrick continued to win races at a rate unlike any harness racing driver in history in June, picking up a record 120 victories for the month and increasing his season total to 601. Tetrick broke his own record for triumphs in a single calendar month, which he established in April with 110 trips to the winner’s circle.

Walter Case Jr. holds the record for wins in a single year, with 1,077 set in 1998, but the 25-year-old Tetrick is ahead of Case’s pace that season. Case had 555 wins at the end of June 1998.

“June was pretty much the same as the month before; a lot of luck and getting good horses,” said Tetrick, who closed June with a seven-win day by picking up three victories at Pocono Downs and four at the Meadowlands Racetrack. “It’s hard; I’m working at it. I haven’t had much time to sit back and relax. I’ve been really fortunate; it’s amazing where I’m at. I won four races in a night at the Meadowlands and I never thought I’d win four in a week there let alone in one night."

Tetrick, who became the youngest driver to win a million-dollar race when he captured the Art Rooney Pace with Southwind Lynx at Yonkers Raceway on June 2, leads all North American drivers in earnings this year with $6.9 million. He is on his way to becoming the youngest driver to have a $10 million season and could become the first driver since Jack Moiseyev in 1991 to lead in wins and earnings in the same year.

“I don’t think anyone can fathom a 25-year-old doing this; I’m not really believing it’s happening,” Tetrick said, laughing. “It’s hard to get work like that when you’re 25, work that can get you to where you need to be. I’ve always dreamed of being at this level. It’s great to be here.” (HRC)
