Tim Tetrick became the youngest driver to reach 4,000 career wins in the eighth race on Wednesday night at the Meadowlands, driving Cheyenne Barry to victory.
Tetrick, 26, supplanted Walter Case Jr. as the youngest driver to reach 4,000 lifetime triumphs; Case was 29. No other driver was under the age of 31 when he reached that plateau.
Tetrick entered Wednesday needing eight wins to reach the milestone. He bagged six races in the afternoon at Harrah’s Chester, and then picked up two more wins at the Meadowlands. Tetrick’s other winner Wednesday night at the Meadowlands was Snazzy Hot Rod in the $18,000 opening round of the Hiram Woodruff.
Tetrick grew up in Geff, Illinois, but recently purchased a home in Runnemede, New Jersey. In 2007, he became the youngest driver to win a million-dollar race and established the single-season record for victories with 1,089. He also set the record for most purse earnings in a season, with $18.3 million, and was named Driver of the Year by the U.S. Harness Writers Association. (Meadowlands)
