Thanksgiving could end up being a belated special holiday for trainer Sam Beegle this year. When his Arctic Warrior finished fifth in his Nov. 22, Matron elimination, just two-fifths of a second behind Hypnotic Blue Chip, who advanced to the Nov. 29 final, Beegle chose to be optimistic – he immediately dropped his horse in the box.
“I walked right over and entered him,” said Beegle, who is also a partner on the Blissfull Hall colt. “I knew that you had to re-enter and I knew the draw schedule had changed from Thanksgiving to the Monday before it. But I was hoping that if anybody didn’t enter the final – for any reason – I’d get a chance to be in it. You never know.”
When millionaire Vintage Master missed the rescheduled draw and was not entered, Beegle’s horse drew post position eight in the $259,486 Matron Final.
