Primetime Bobcat ($24.00, $7.80, $3.80) received a perfect pocket trip in the $100,000 Gold Cup Invitational Saturday night at Woodbine and defeated a stellar group of upper echelon pacers, as he and driver Jody Jamieson stopped the clock in 1:49.3 for trainer Tony Montini.

Lis Mara ($4.00, $2.60) and pilot Brian Sears provided all the speed, notching the fractions in :27.1, :55.4 and 1:22.1, respectively, before finishing 1 ¼ lengths in arrears and bottoming the $97.60 exactor.

In rein to George Brennan, World Record holder Holborn Hanover ($2.30) had sat mid-pack before racing second-over, and eventually completed the $223.20 triactor, as he ended up 2¾ in arrears when all was said and done.

With John Campbell at his lines, Ponder finished fourth, while driver Jack Moiseyev and Our Lucky Killean picked up the final check.

The win was the 43rd of Primetime Bobcat’s career, and the 9 year old has now banked $558,231 overall. The Abercrombie gelding has earned $373579 of that this season, a campaign which has seen him assemble a resume which reads 12-3-2 from 23 starts.

Primetime Bobcat is owned by Montini, Basil Michelle, and William and Joseph Rogers, all of whom are residents of Ontario. (WEG)
