The recently-opened permanent slots area at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is an early success, according to figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Board that show the $175-million site generating total revenue of $15.36 million its first two weeks of operation.

The casino had revenue of $15,366,367 and after paying taxes and other fees, the site made $6,767,977, exclusive of wages and operating costs. The total revenue was nearly $700,000 more during the same two-week period than Philadelphia Park ($14,649,105). Among harness tracks, Harrah’s Chester had $12.7 million in revenue and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs had $9.2 million, ranking the sites overall third and fifth, respectively.

According to the Gaming Board, The Meadows had $87,428,411 in wagers its first week of operation that actually consisted of only six days, paying out $79,320,562. For the second week of April 20-26, wagers reached $88,498,036 with The Meadows paying out $80,972,073.

Thirty-four percent of the gross revenue goes to the state, which means that Pennsylvania received $5,315,371 for the opening two-week period. Four percent of the gross revenue goes to the local share account ($625,336); five percent goes to an economic development and tourism fund ($781,671); and $1,876,012 goes to the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Development Fund.

The Meadows operated approximately 600 machines in its temporary facility. There are currently 3,119 machines in the permanent site, a number that will rise to 3,749 on Friday when the casino opens its second phase.
