The Principle made his presence felt with a bold 1:57.3 victory in Thursday night’s $7,000 featured eighth event at Vernon Downs.
Trainer Dan Daley did the driving as The Principle raced on the front end throughout the week’s top division of the Miracle Mile trotting class and defeated the pesky John Paul’s Legacy by two lengths.
It was the second local tally and fifth season’s score for the 3-year-old gelding, who has banked $121,796 in 19 current appearances for owners Ann-Mari Daley (Dan’s wife) and Richard Lombardo. The son of Conway Hall-Deeann Hanover now sports six lifetime victories and overall earnings of $147,150. He produced his 1:57.2 record at Tioga Downs in a New York Sire Stakes score on Aug. 16.
Claude Huckabone III, his father, Claude Huckabone Jr., and Fern Paquet Jr. each achieved driving doubles during Thursday’s nine-race program, while Jack Bailey, the track’s all-time driving champion (16 overall titles) chalked up a pair of training tallies. (Vernon Downs)
