The show goes on at Lake Odessa

“The Show Must Go On!” was never more evident this week at the Lake Odessa Fair in Lake Odessa, Mich., as fair officials first had to work through the reneging of a carnival contract and then a Thursday rain delay that forced 29 harness races to be contested Friday.

Fair officials reportedly did not learn that the carnival concessionaire had no plans to set up at the fairgrounds until 5 p.m. last Sunday. That action came despite the company issuing specially-made posters promoting the fair three weeks earlier. Another company was quickly enlisted, bringing in two merry-go-rounds and a glass house. Six inflatables were also brought in, including one with a water slide.

A rodeo went on as scheduled on Wednesday, but then the rains came Thursday that washed out that card. The marathon program was scheduled to begin around 11:30 a.m. with the Thursday program first, followed by Friday’s race card.
