Third straight for Rain Train in Yonkers Open Handicap Pace

Our Galvinator A fought the good fight, but it's tough to stop an oncoming Train. Rain Train, back after a week off, made it three consecutive wins, taking Saturday night's $30,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway.

With Jason Bartlett again doing the honors for co-owner/trainer Robert Sunner, Rain Train just did get by a sutbbon foe in 1:52.4.

Leaving from post post position No. 4 as the 3-5 favorite, Rain Train did what he does best--mind his business early. Our Galvinator A (Steve Smith), a 13-1 proposition starting right outside the fave, shot right to the front.

He went up and over pole-sitting Royal Man (Stephane Bouchard), getting a 28-second opening quarter-mile and :57.1 intermission. Mr. P B N (Eric Abbatiello) then rushed from fourth, getting ahead of the leader but not completely by him.

Our Galvinator A needed a spiffy 27-second third quarter to keep that challenger in abeyance, but the people's choice was lurking.

The longshot leader dimissed his stubborn first interloper, but Rain Train angled wide and finished it off. He won by three-quarters of a length, with Our Galvinator A a credible second and Royal Man third. Getting Real (Greg Merton) and Ideal Michael (Ray Schnittker) collected the crumbs.

For Rain Train, a 5-year-old Jenna's Beach Boy gelding also co-owned by Gary Paganelli, he returned $3.30 for his fourth win in eight seasonal starts. The exacta paid $24.40, with the triple worth a C-note. (Yonkers)
