Three horses, all boarded show horses, and a mule died in a barn fire late Wednesday night at Grand Marina Farm in
No official cause of the fire has been determined, but it is suspected to have been the result of a storm Monday night during which a tree knocked down some power lines going to the barn. According to Polly Hilliard fire officials and her insurance company are investigating the cause.
The horses that perished in the fire were boarded at the farm for riding at the farm's indoor-outdoor arena. They included a mule, a pleasure horse and two Hunter Jumpers. Bill Hilliard managed to save a dressage horse from the blaze.
