It's the fifth and final chance to impress the judges as the George Morton Levy Memorial Pacing Series wraps up the preliminaries Saturday night at Yonkers Raceway with a trio of $50,000 divisions.
Saturday night's first Levy event includes Panaramic Art (Diver TBA, post 1) and Tarver Hanover (Driver TBA , post 3). The former, a 4-year-old Hot Pans gelding, has acquitted himself well in his first free-for-all foray with a couple of seconds in three tries. The latter, a 7-year-old son of Ball And Chain, authored a 23-1 shocker a week ago after not being heard from in his first three Levy tries.
Ghee's House (Eric Abbatiello, post 5) makes his series debut and just his second start of the season. The 4-year-old son of Western Ideal banked in excess of $406,000 as a sophomore. The middle grouping, by far the strongest, is led by series stalwart Took Hanover (Greg Merton, post 6), he of the four-race winning streak and a perfect three-for-three Levy ledger. "Took" owns the fastest local mile of the season--1:51.1--three weeks ago and has led at every call in his series sojourns. The 5-year-old son of The Panderosa has gone past the half-million-dollar career earnings plateau in this series. Bono Bests (Pat Berry, post 3) makes his his second series appearance after a handy, first-up win three weeks ago. In the interim, he overcame the outside seven post and Mother Nature for a blowout win in last Saturday night's $100,000 Battle of Lake Erie at Northfield. The 5-year-old Pro Bono Best gelding returns with three consecutive wins and six victories in his last seven tries. Palone Ranger (Catello Manzi, post 5) was a first-over, upset winner in this series three starts ago. The final prelim includes Special Report (Larry Stalbaum, post 5) and Mypanmar (Stephane Bouchard, post 3), narrow second and third, respectively, to upsetter Tarver Hanover a week ago. Defending series champ Maltese Artist (Greg Grismore, post 1) is looking for his first '08 preliminary win in his fourth '08 series appearance. The $390,000 final of the George Morton Levy Memorial Pacing Series, richest race of the season to date, goes Saturday night, May 3. There is also a $100,000 series consolation. (Yonkers)
