Three supplement to Breeders Crowns

Return Home
November 12, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Two sophomore trotters and one pacer were supplemented to the $4.7 million Breeders Crown events which will be contested on Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Meadowlands.

Despite the dominance of the undefeated Donato Hanover, whose slate for the year reads 11 wins in 11 starts, the connections of sophomore trotters Arch Madness and Prayer I Am were willing to roll the dice on the hefty supplemental fee of $62,500 to take a shot at the divisional leader. The Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colt Trot event now carries a purse of $610,000, meaning a third-place finish or better is needed to recoup the supplemental fee.

Marc Goldberg and Willow Pond Stable’s Arch Madness was a four-length winner of the Ontario Sire Stakes Super Final on Saturday night, making the phone call to enter the Breeders Crown this morning a mere formality. The son of Balanced Image has made the bulk of his $536,730 in purse money in Canada, but was second to Donato Hanover in both their elim and final of the Kentucky Futurity.

Roy Dobbins’ Prayer I Am didn’t fare as well in his Breeders Crown springboard race, the Matron final, finishing second by a length to Great Success. The effort was still deemed worthy of a chance for a shot at one of the few remaining big money events of the year for the colt.

Koehler, Robinson and Strollin Stable’s sophomore pacer Won The West was also supplemented to his division, the $555,000 Crown 3-Year-Old Colt Pace. The son of Western Hanover won his last three starts, the Tattersalls Pace at Lexington, a preferred event at The Meadows and the American National at Balmoral Park for trainer Mickey Burke.

There are no supplemental provisions for 2-year-old races. The finalists for the eight Breeders Crown finals will be determined through elimination races this Friday and Saturday nights at the Meadowlands.

Regular entries for eligible trotters and pacers are due by 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Meadowlands race office. Eliminations for all 2 year olds will be raced on Friday and eliminations for all 3 year olds will be Saturday. Elimination winners may pick their post position for the finals.

The $4.7 million divisional championships for 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers has finals scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Meadowlands. Post time is 7:30 p.m. (Breeders Crown)
