Thunder rolls in Dover feature

October 31, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Big Sky Thunder closed with a rush for a 1:57 victory in the $15,000 feature trot while Kuai Diam N took the $12,000 co-feature at Dover Downs on Thursday.

Roger Plante played a waiting game as rivals battled until the final turn. He sent Big Sky Thunder four wide entering the stretch then whizzed past to score a 1:57 victory. The win was the first of two for Plante and trainer Phyllis Copeland. David Hanisch and Dom Rafanelli own Big Sky Thunder (Enjoy Lavec-Southern Puff), a 5-year-old roan gelding. Sugar Valley Alley (Carlo Poliseno) also closed well and finished second. Powerful Committee (Vince Copeland) was third.

One race earlier the Art Brewer-owned trainee Kuai Diam N (Arteos-Likely Franco) came on for Jim Morand to fashion a 1:54 performance. Kal Liebowitz's Arterosa was runner-up. Fox Valley Yuppie (Wolfenden) was the show horse.

While Philadelphia sports fans get ready to celebrate the Phillies winning the World Series, Rick MacLeish, who was part of two parades for the Philadelphia Flyers after Stanley Cup wins, was in the winner's circle after Ain't Goin Back, a Jenna's Beach Boy-Donethatbeenthere mare he owns with Kathleen Stafford, turned in a 1:54.4 triumph driven by Ben Stafford Jr., in a $7,500 fillies and mares pace.
