Although a supplemental bill that provides funding for horse racing in Michigan, including more than $2 million to operate the state's Office of Racing Commissioner overwhelmingly passed the state House last week, because it is not scheduled to come up for a vote in the Senate until next Tuesday, all racetracks in the state are scheduled to close at midnight Thursday.
The impending closure for live racing (currently at Northville Downs) and simulcasting at all the sites means that the tracks would miss out on the two days of Breeders Cup races from Santa Anita.
Horsemen in the state are being urged by the Michigan Harness Horsemen's Association to contact their local Senators to ask that the vote be moved up and supported so that racing can continue.
