Canadian invader Tigerama, a winner of five straight races, has been named the 7-5 favorite in Saturday’s $100,000 Battle of Lake Erie, a by-invitation pace, in a field that will also include Bono Bests and Western Ace. It is the 23rd edition of the race at Northfield Park. Tigerama, owned by Robert Hamather of Exeter, Ont., drew the inside post, which makes him a prohibitive favorite. On the other hand, Bono Bests, who figures to give Tigerama a run for his money, drew the outside post eight, making his task tougher as he was installed as the 9-2 third choice behind George Teague and Kovach Stables’ Western Ace, who carries a 4-1 morning line. Tigerama and Western Ace are both millionaires, while Bono Bests, owned by the New York partnership of Herbert Burns III and Stephen Demeter has been nearly unbeatable, winning five of six since being turned over to trainer Ross Croghan in February. The Battle of Lake Erie is scheduled for about 11 pm and will be the 12th race on a 14-race card at Northfield Saturday. First race post is 7 pm. The race will be broadcast live on TVG network, channel 602 on DirecTV and channel 405 on Dish Network, and on HRTV, channel 404 on Dish Network.
