Tim Tetrick adds another award

Return Home
January 04, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Tim Tetrick, harness racing’s new superstar who rose from obscurity to new world records in 2007, winning more races and purse money in a single season than anyone in history, has added Harness Tracks of America’s Driver of the Year to his laurels.

The award, the most difficult in harness racing to win, requires a driver to finish in the top 25 in North America in money won, races won, and driver percentage standings. Points are awarded from 25 for first down to one for 25th, with a 25-point bonus for finishing in the top 25 in all three categories. Only four drivers, out of 4,493 who drove in at least one purse race last year, were able to accomplish the feat.

Tetrick finished first in wins with his all-time record of 1,188 winning drives; first in earnings with a record $18,342,367 won by his mounts; and sixth in in-the-money percentage standings with a .388 average, giving him 95 points to 83 for second-place Tony Morgan, who races primarily at the same Delaware Valley tracks as Tetrick, and 78 for third-place finisher Dave Palone, who campaigns out of The Meadows near Pittsburgh. Both Morgan and Palone are multiple winners of past HTA Driver of the Year championships. Stephance Bouchard, Yonkers Raceway’s leading driver, was the fourth driver to finish in the top 25 in all categories, earning 69 points.
