Tintabella aims for five

Tintabella N will look to continue her dominance of the Pompano Park female pacing division when the New Zealand-bred mare attempts to capture her fifth consecutive victory in Friday’s $18,000 Fillies and Mares Handicap Pace at the South Florida oval.

After beginning her season with four consecutive defeats, Tintabella N has been nearly unstoppable over the past two months, prevailing in six of her last seven starts. The mare’s lone defeat during that period came on April 20 when she surrendered the lead in the final yards and was beaten a neck while finishing third.

Owned by Glen Del Russo and Daryl Bier, Tintabella N held off a determined Wilma Hall to prevail by a neck in last week’s filly and mare pacing feature while stopping the timer in 1:54.2. Just three stars ago, the daughter of Tinted Cloud scored in a seasonal best clocking of 1:53.

Trained by Gus Scarpias and driven by co-owner Bier, Tintabella N has been assigned post six for the Friday feature and has been installed as the 5-2 morning-line favorite.

Knockout Stable’s Wilma Hall, the fastest female pace in the history of Pompano Park with a 1:51.3 mile last November, will take another shot at taking down Tintabella N when starting in the Friday feature for trainer Jim McDonald.

A 10-time winner in 2006, Wilma Hall has visited the winner’s circle just twice this year and enters Friday’s race on a minor seven-race skid. During that span the daughter of Blissful Hall has finished second on three occasions, including her recent defeat to Tintabella N in last week’s feature.

Driven by Pompano Park’s leading driver Bruce Ranger, Wilma Hall starts from post three on Friday and is listed at 3-1 in the morning line.

Starting from post four in the Friday feature is My Metallica, a winner three starts ago when scoring an upset victory at odds of 16-1.

The daughter of Party at Artsplace has since returned with consecutive second-place performances, beaten a head by Tintabella N two starts ago before coming up a length shy of that rival in her most recent outing.

Listed as the co-second choice in the morning line at odds of 3-1, My Metallica will be driven by Wally Hennessey for trainer Tom Harmer.

Rounding out the field for the $18,000 Friday feature is Cape Cove Daisy, who has finished second in each of her last two starts; Hyde Park Hussie N, a winner in 1:54 in her most recent appearance; and Montana Moonlite A, who was third to Tintabella N and Wilma Hall in her last start while pacing a final quarter mile in :27.1.
