On Sunday, June 10, Tioga Downs continued its newest promotion, the “Name That Foal Contest,” for the second time, and the 10-day old foal by SJ's Photo and his mother, Keystone Starbrite, were at the track, live and in person.
Jeff Gural, chairman of American Racing and Entertainment , which owns Tioga Downs, also owns Allerage Farms, which has a location within 10 miles of Tioga Downs. Keystone Starbrite and Gural's other broodmares live at the farm.
At the track fans wrote a name for the horse on a slip of paper and put in into a barrel. Tioga management then went through the names and picked out the best three names. It was then up to the crowd to decide the winner.
Tioga general manager Jason Settlemoir announced the three finalists and the fans had to cheer for which one they liked the best. The three names chosen were Squirt In The Dirt, Starbrite Photo and Tioga Thunder. After the all the cheering was over, the colt’s new name was Tioga Thunder.
