Tioga making track improvements for May 3 opener

Tioga Downs opened its backstretch for stabling, and a project is also in the works to re-surface and re-grade the five-eighths mile racing oval to bring it back up to its original specifications. Greg Coon of Charles E. Coon & Sons Inc., which designed the track, is handling the improvements.
 
Tioga will also have a new track superintendent, Richard Pirog, who comes to Tioga from Buffalo Raceway.
 
Tioga will begin its third racing season on Saturday, May 3, with a post time of 6:50 pm. Tioga's opening day coincides with Kentucky Derby day and will begin well before post time with special promotions and parties. Festivities will begin at 10 am when the doors open and will roll right on through the night with a fireworks show following live racing.
 
Tioga will host three qualifying days before its first race night which includes Friday, April 18, at 11 am, Friday, April 25, at 11 am, and a special night time qualifying session on Monday, April 28, at 7 pm for meet the press night at Tioga Downs.
