Tioga Downs is proud to announce there will be a purse increase of 10–15 percent beginning immediately. Every class will see the effects of the purse increase; the purse increase will be “across the board.” “We are extremely pleased to announce this purse increase at Tioga Downs,” said Jason Settlemoir, vice president of racing and simulcast. “Opening weekend was great from an operational standpoint; we were able to handle the large crowds smoothly and efficiently. The large crowds at Tioga and the purse increase just furthers the point that with top class racing and promotions we can drive people to our property.” The Empire Breeder’s Classic will hold eliminations this weekend. Vernon Downs will host the eliminations on Saturday, May 19, at 6:50 p.m. for the 3-year-old trotters of both sexes. Tioga will host the 3-year-old pacers on Sunday, May 20, at 1:15 p.m. Finals of the Empire Breeder’s Classic will be raced next weekend. The finals at Tioga Downs for the gait of the pacer will be held on Sunday, May 27, at 1:15 p.m., while the finals for the trotters will be raced at Vernon Downs on Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day), at 1:15 p.m. In addition to the Empire Breeder’s Classic on Memorial Day, Vernon will host the final of the Conway Hall, an open mare trot that goes for an estimated $100,000. All participants in the Empire Breeder’s Classic or the Conway Hall can e-mail Jason Settlemoir for room reservations or dining reservations at jsettlemoir@tiogadowns.com. Tioga Downs opened up for its second season of live harness racing action on Friday, May 11. Tioga accommodated more than 8,000 fans over the three-day weekend and enjoyed 34 races over the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday cards. (Tioga Downs)
