Shanghai Lil and Dave Palone tipped four wide off the final turn and stormed home to score in the $39,678 second division of the Tompkins-Geers for 2-year old pacing fillies Saturday night at Tioga Downs. It was the first win of the career for the freshmen daughter of Jenna’s Beach Boy out of the Artsplace mare Wonderbolt.

The mile of 1:55.2 established the lifetime benchmark for the $45,000 yearling purchase for the All Star Racing Inc. of Towaco, NJ. Peter Foley trains Shanghai Lil. Harper Lee and Todd Schadel cut the mile and held on for second, while entry mate Bell On Wheels and Roger Hammer got third.

Charlie Norris and Foggy Lane K survived a photo finish and picked up the victory in the division for 3-year old colt and gelding trotters. It was the second lifetime win for the Lindy Lane colt owned by Robert Key of Leechburg, Pa., who is also trained by Charlie Norris. The mile of 1:57 set a new lifetime mark for Foggy Lane K, it was Di Manggio second in the photo, while Celebrity Phantom, despite a miscue behind the gate recovered for third.

All Spirit lit up the tote board in the first division for 2-year old pacing fillies paying eighty dollars plus for a two dollar win ticket. The 2-year old Bettor’s Delight filly and Howard Parker took down the heavy 1-9 favorite Perfectionist, with a lifetime mark of 1:55.2. Judy Lanpher trains All Spirit for Larry Lanpher of Winter Park, Fl.

Dave Palone and Jimmy Marohn Jr. each posted driving doubles on the night’s ten race card. (Tioga)
