Tom's Toy ends Shes Everything's streak

Big money was on the line for Delaware-sired horses Monday night at Dover Downs, and in a $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final for 2-year-old filly pacers, Tom's Toy won her third in a row, ending a six-race win streak by Shes Everything.

Corey Callahan sat second from the start until the homestretch when he pulled the Tom Cooke-homebred Powerful Toy-Glowing Hans bay to the outside and quickly rushed past Shes Everything, piloted by Jim Morand, to score a lifetime best 1:54.4 conquest. The victory was her fourth in nine starts with three seconds and now a $84,454 bankroll. Rusty's Joy and Eddie Davis Jr. came on strongly to finish second with Shes Everything holding on for third.

Another win streak lengthened in the $100,000 DSBF Colt and Gelding Final. Sgt. Charlie, an gelded son of Badlands Hanover from a former standout top race mare Baroque Bogart, made it four straight when Ron Pierce averted possible trouble when race favorite Mr. Wiggles raced rough in mid-backstretch and broke stride.

Sgt. Charlie came on to reach the finish line in 1:55.2 for his fifth success in nine starts with two seconds and a third for owner Jeff Bartels. Bad Boy Named Sue was a game second. Bad Blood George, driven by Tony Morgan, was third.

Sgt. Charlie was named for owner Bartels' father, a World War II veteran who passed away a few days before the colt was born.

In two $20,000 DSBF consolations, CJ Crystal, owned by Charles Johnson, Lois Cicippio and Shirley Collins, scored a 1:57.1 win with Roger Plante driving in a frosh filly division. The colt and gelding consolation was taken by Ray's Big Bubba and Ross Wolfenden steering for Richards Stable, Rae Sullivan and Jay Leonard, in 1:53.3, his sixth win in 10 starts. (Dover Downs)
