Cane Pace runner-up Took Hanover turned in a 1:52.1 winning effort in a qualifier Friday morning at The Red Mile in one final prep before next week's Little Brown Jug.
"He's already entered," said trainer Noel Daley. "We weren't out to do a hard hit like that but (driver) John (Campbell) said we're going in (to the Jug) right."
Took Hanover paced away from the rest of the field over a track that has been pounded by rain all week long. Daley said Campbell will drive Took Hanover in the Jug.
In other qualifiers, Mr. Muscleman won his second qualifier of the year, this time in 1:57.2. Brendan Johnson drove the 6-year-old Muscles Yankee gelding for trainer Daley.
Daley said Mr. Muscleman will start in one more qualfier at around 1:55, then start in the Allerage Trot at The Red Mile. Daley named one major rival to his $3.2 million winner.
"If Sand Vic is on his game, then we'll find him tough to beat the first couple of starts," Daley said.
Peter Haughton Memorial winner Donato Hanover won his split in 1:59 with trainer Steve Elliott in the bike.
