Too Salty ($14) made a three-wide move at the three-quarter mile marker to collar race leader O-Georgie and then sped away to victory by 2 1/4 lengths in winning the $42,500 final of the Trots & Slots Series at the Isle Pompano Park Monday. The time of the one-mile trot was a lifetime mark of 1:54.4 for Too Salty. Bruce Ranger drove the 5-year-old gelding to his third win this year for trainer Doug Miller of The sixth race feature started off with O-Georgie and driver Anthony Napolitano leaving quickly from post eight to take the lead away from Cisco Hall (Richard Simard) and park out Diva Diva (Andy Santeramo) to the opening quarter mile in :27.2. As soon as they straighten out and headed down the stretch, Cisco Hall went offstride, giving the pocket-trip to Diva Diva. O-Georgie led the field to the half mile pole in :55.3 and once they hit the backstretch the action started to heat up. Farmer Jones (Fern Paquet Jr.) came first-over to challenge and following his cover was Too Salty with race favorite, Slave Dream and driver David Ingraham third-over. But Ranger had Too Salty on the move and they swept three wide around Farmer Jones at the three-quarters in 1:25.1 and came after O-Georgie while Ingraham was trying to pan four wide with Slave Dream. As the field came down the stretch the final time, Ranger and Too Salty put away O-Georgie and cruised home as Slave Dream could only close for second place with O-Georgie third. “He is a strong horse.” Ranger said of Too Salty. “He has always been close at the finish in the series but tonight he had good cover and came off it very strong.” (Pompano Park)
