Jeff Gregory says he's "getting itchy" to climb back into the sulky after being forced to the sidelines when he suffered a broken hip in a race accident at Freehold Jan. 14. Gregory told The Horseman Thursday afternoon that he has a doctor's appointment scheduled for April 13 where he is hoping to receive approval to return to the racetrack.

Gregory said he has been going to a 1 ½-hour rehab session three days a week as he nears his return. "I actually just got back from therapy and they've been working me pretty hard," he said. "There are no restrictions on what I can't do anymore and I no longer have any pain."

Gregory said he was at Showplace Farm in New Jersey for about four hours Wednesday morning and he jogged six or seven horses and worked some babies for trainers Jeff Smith and George Berkner. Gregory said he trained the 3-year-old pacing filly Sugar Glider, who won last year's Kentucky Sire Stakes championship, a pretty good mile for Berkner.

"A lot of people were surprised to see me," Gregory said with a laugh. "It felt just like it used to. I am getting itchy to return."
