No Nukes, who turned heads with his speed as a young colt and then went on to sire the top stallions Western Hanover and Jate Lobell, died Monday morning at Hanover Shoe Farm's New Jersey division. He was 26.



A son of Oil Burner-Gidget Lobell, No Nukes won four of six starts as a 2 year old and paced to a mark of 1:56.3. At age three he lowered his record to 1:52.1 in a time trial and was a top contender, boosting his career earnings to $572,430.



In addition to siring Western Hanover and Jate Lobell, No Nukes also sired the $2 million winners Die Laughing and Immortality.



Murray Brown, Hanover's director of public relations, said No Nukes had not been eating well and his health began to deteriorate. When it became obvious the horse was suffering, the decision was made to euthanize him. Brown added that the horse was brought back to Hanover's main farm in Pennsylvania to be buried.
