The top steel beam for the new grandstand building at the Meadowlands Racetrack was erected on Friday morning and a large crowd gathered for the occasion. In the front in a blue jacket is New Meadowlands racetrack operator Jeff Gural, with New Jersey Assembly President Steve Sweeney, whose district includes Atlantic City, and northern New Jersey state legislators Paul Sarlo and Ralph Caputo joining him as well. Also in attendance are Tom Luchento and Leo McNamara of the Standarbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey; horsemen John Campbell, Tim Tetrick, Yannick Gingras, Andy Miller, Tony Alagna and Marcus Miller; Meadowlands staff Jason Settlemoir, Darin Zoccali, Peter Koch, Gary Wolfe, Wendy Ross and Jen Bongiorno; The Hambletonian Society's Callie Davies-Gooch; and Brittany Farms racing manager Myron Bell.
State legislators Sarlo and Caputo, whose districts include the Meadowlands, signed the beam and wrote comments that they will be back for the steel to be erected for a casino at the Meadowlands. Sarlo penned, "I will be back for the casino steel erection."
