Top trotters race Friday

While 3-year-old pacers are the focus on Saturday night in the Meadowlands Pace eliminations, the Friday card will showcase the sport’s top sophomore trotters as the fields are decided for the $375,000 Stanley Dancer Memorial and $375,000 Delvin Miller Memorial at the Meadowlands.

Twenty-two colts were split among three $35,000 eliminations for the Stanley Dancer which is regarded as the last major prep race for the $1.5 million Hambletonian, the sport’s most prestigious event on Aug. 5 at the Meadowlands. The elims are carded as races two, three and five. The top three finishers from each elimination, plus the fastest fourth-place finisher, will advance to the $375,000 final on Saturday, July 15.

Sixteen fillies will vie for a spot in the $375,000 Del Miller, the final prep for the Hambletonian’s sister race, the $750,000 Hambletonian Oaks. The top five finishers in each elim, races seven and eight on the program, will advance to the final on Friday, July 14.
