Toronto may seek more slot revenue from Woodbine

Published reports from Toronto state that the city’s executive committee has recommended to the Toronto Council to negotiate an increase in the revenue the city receives from the slot machines at Woodbine, which would result in an increase from $14.5 million a year to about $55 million.

Currently, the city receives five percent of the gross revenue on the first 450 of the 1,950 slot machines and two percent from the remaining machines. The recommendation is that the city receives 10 percent of the machines’ net win, which is the same percentage the track and horsemen receive.

"With Woodbine there's been significant development," Toronto Mayor David Miller was quoted as saying. “We want to make sure that if any of it happens it's fair for Toronto. Supporting the development is going to be a significant cost for Toronto. We have to build light rail transit there. This will help pay for city services and help pay for the development's success."
