Torvald Palema wins; North Americans fail to advance

Driver Paul MacDonell aggressively drove Canadian representative Define The World, but he still failed to advance to the Elitlopp final, along with American contenders Enough Talk and Lisa America as the second elimination was won by Sweden's Torvald Palema.

The second elim got underway with MacDonell sending Define The World, a 5-year-old son of Duke Of York, away from the gate strongly from post five. They took the lead without too much opposition as Ake Svanstedt yielded with Torvald Palema, who started from post one.

MacDonell then yielded just before the half to Beanie MM, which left the Lou Guida-owned Lisa America, driven by Jorma Kontio, uncovered on the outside. Lisa America hung tough until the last turn when Kontio gave her a tap with the whip, but she failed to respond. Enough Talk, driven by Johnny Takter, was never in the hunt in the stretch drive. Define The World was pinned at the pylons

Meanwhile, Svanstedt was backing up in the hole to angle out from behind Define The World and try to gain a clear path. There was no clear path, but Svanstedt managed to pick his way through traffic and then sliced between Brioni and the Stefan Melander-trained Iceland to win in 1:53.2.
