Total Truth became the sport's newest millionaire after capturing the Hoosier Cup at Hoosier Park Saturday night. With Yannick Gingras driving for trainer and co-owner George Teague, Total Truth scored a 1:50.1 victory in his $25,000 elimination and then came back to win the $450,000 final with a 1:51 effort.
The first Hoosier Cup elim went to Western Guy, who made a first-over move to the lead at the quarter for driver Andy Miller and led the rest of the route to win in 1:51.3. Gingras directed Real Mean Art to a second-place finish with Sea Dragon third. Also earning return tickets for the final were Ab's Beach Boy and Eagle Real One, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Total Truth also took his elim after making a quarter-pole move for Gingras, although he later had to tussle with Western Shore and driver Mark MacDonald. Total Truth rallied again to go on to the victory, with Dave Panlone closing for second for driver Dave Palone. My Boy David was third, followed by Winbak Dimensions and Western Shore.
That set the stage for the rich final and it was a bit of deja vu for Total Truth and Gingras as a quarter-pole move once again sent them to the top. It wasn't easy at first as Sea Dragon came up the inside of Total Truth and kept that one parked a bit, but Gingras was finally able to angle his charge back to the pylons. Then, despite some pressure around the final bend, Total Truth showed no signs of wear and tear as he determinedly held off his rivals to gain the victory. Western Guy made a late rally to earn second with My Boy David third. Finishing fourth was Dave Panlone while Western Shore took home the fifth=place check.
With wins last week in the $1.35 million North America Cup and Saturday's Hoosier Cup, Total Truth has now earned $969,250. The son of Jenna's Beach Boy now has a career bankroll of $1,072,075 for owners Teague Inc. (trainer Teague and his sister, Brenda) and Only Money Inc. (Patrick and Marianne Callahan).
