The current circumstances concerning the future of racing at both Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs have compelled management to issue the following statement regarding live racing in 2008.
"It is our opinion that the temporary closing of one or both facilities will initiate action in the
"Understandably, those facing payments to nominate to stakes at Tioga Downs or Vernon Downs have concerns regarding those races. In answer to those concerns, management is very optimistic that live racing will resume well in advance of any stake races scheduled for 2008.
"During our brief history, important races like the $1 million Empire Breeders Classic (Feb. 15 payment and March 15 payment) and six-figure stakes such as the Miss Versatility (March 15 payment), Credit Winner (March 15 payment), Conway Hall (March 15 payment) and Artiscape (March 15 payment) have become lucrative and established options for nominators, along with the Kindergarten Classic, which have payments due on April 15. It is our intention to continue these stakes and add to the list as we move forward. We ask that you nominate your horses to the Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs stakes with the confidence that the races will be raced as scheduled in 2008.
“We feel very strongly that positive news will be forthcoming from the New York legislature over the next couple weeks and again everyone should make there payments on time and plan on racing at both Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs in 2008."
Tioga/Vernon vice president of racing Jason Settlemoir added, “Jeff (Gural) our Chairman has told me to rest assured these races will go on as planned.”
