Munis Blue Chip, a 2-year-old trotting filly by Credit Winner--Hustle N Muscle, went wire-to-wire, in 2:00.2, to win a division of the $22,077 New York Sire Stakes for 2-year-old trotting fillies at Buffalo Raceway on Friday night. The winning time was a new track record, which eclipsed the old record set by Winning Appeal in 2006, by one-fifth of a second.
Trained and owned by Ray Schnittker, along with partners Arnold, Silva, and Blue Chip Bloodstock, Munis Blue Chip ($9.50) set fractions of :30.4, 1:00.1, and 1:30.3. A :29.4 last quarter-mile put the winner six lengths ahead of second place finisher, and the favorites in the race, Madam Hooch and driver Mike Simons. Windemerealfiredup (Wally Hennessey) came in third.
“Her mother (Hustle N Muscle) was a killer on the track,” Schnittker said. “We bought her in Kentucky for $140,000. That’s the biggest win price she’ll ever pay in New York. She’s a killer, just like her mother”.
Another popular winner Friday night was the hometown favorite Tuesdays With Mom ($3.10), who has now won two Sire Stakes in a row, to remain undefeated. The Credit Winner--Princess Deanna filly also went wire-to-wire, in 2:07.2, for owner-trainer Peter Arrigenna.
Capably driven by Wally Hennessey, Tuesdays With Mom set fractions of :32.2, 1:03.4, and 1:37.1 to the three-quarter mark. Finishing second were Reena and reinsman Trond Smedshammer, while Somersault (Ray Schnittker) came in third.
The name Tuesdays With Mom came about when Peter’s wife, Pam, would visit her mother, the late Phyllis Dougherty every Tuesday to make her dinner and watch after her.
The other Sire Stakes winners on Friday were Show Your Lindys (Torgeir Hagmann), in 2: 06.1; Dreama Littledream (Gates Brunet), in 2:01.2; Sweetspellosuccess (Trond Smedshammer), in 2:05.4; and DW’s QT Petootie (Kevin Cummings), in 2:09.3. (Buffalo Raceway)
