Arthur B. Unger, 73, a trainer based at the Meadowlands for more than 30 years, died Saturday, March 8, at the Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center in Secaucus, N.J. In the late 1970s, Mr. Unger campaigned two of the preeminent free-for-all pacers of that era, Shadyside Trixie and the New Zealand champion, Young Quinn. He was a member of the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey and a trainer for more than 40 years, racing primarily at the Meadowlands, Freehold and Yonkers.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Unger resided in Harrison, NJ before settling in Clark, N.J. 16 years ago. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Road, Clark, N.J. on Wednesday, March 12, from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Interment will be private.

Mr. Unger is survived by his companion, Helen Wright. He was the father of Mrs. Barbara Shields, Scott, Edward, Andrew and the late Jesse Unger. He also survived by his grandchildren.
