Saturday’s $100,000 Miller Lite Courageous Lady Stake at Northfield Park will honor the late Jack Tramonte, whose Tramonte Distributing has been instrumental in securing Miller’s sponsorship of the Courageous Lady, and in past years its companion stake, the Cleveland Classic.
A long-time supporter of harness racing in Ohio, Tramonte passed away on May 4 after a long illness. Among the top horses he campaigned were millionaire Helluva Hush, Ohio Sires champ Doolin Dalton and Stockbroker. He was also the breeder of the world (and track) champion trotter Dunkster.
In addition to this year’s race being dedicated to his memory, Tramonte, who was named Northfield’s Distinguished Owner in 2001, will be saluted with a video tribute and program profile on Courageous Lady night. Members of Tramonte’s family, as well as representatives of Tramonte Distributing, will be on-hand to present the Courageous Lady trophy to the winner. (Northfield Park)
