Trevor Henry to represent Canada in World tourney

March 15, 2013 | Print View

Trevor Henry, Canada's leading dash winning driver for 2012 has accepted an invitation from Standardbred Canada to defend Canada's title in the 2013 World Driving Championship.

Henry, 41, of Arthur, Ontario drove 521 winners during the 2012 season to top the charts for all Canadian drivers, while adding $3.2 million in purse money to his stats. Both numbers were career bests for the talented reinsman. Lifetime, he has driven in over 25,345 races, accumulated 4,665 wins and driven horses to earnings in excess of $30 million.

He also won driving titles at The Raceway at The Western Fair District, Grand River Raceway, Clinton Raceway and Hanover Raceway last year.

"It's an honour to represent your country in any sport and I'm absolutely thrilled to have even been considered,” said Henry after he accepted the invitation. "I'll have to brush up on my French before we leave…it's pretty rough, " he chuckled, "and I'll want to study some video of the racing there.”

Henry was one of the head table guests at the Rogers Sports Celebrity Dinner in London, Ontario on February 11. The dinner was held in support of the world renowned Thames Valley Children's Centre.

The 20-heat World Driving Championship Tour will open in Reims, France -- the heart of the Champagne Region -- on Sunday, June 9, where the first five races will be contested. It will then move to Normandy, at Caen, where four races will be contested on Monday, June 10. Angers will host five races on Wednesday, June 12 and five will be raced on Thursday, June 13 at Mauqenchy before the series comes to a close with a single heat on Saturday, June 15 at Vincennes-Paris, home of the famed Prix d'Amerique.

Jody Jamieson, who won the 2011 WDC title for Canada , withdrew from the event last week because the scheduling of the WDC races conflicted with major stakes races on the WEG circuit. (Standardbred Canada)
