Ms. Virginia, Twilight Mist and Molly McGuire won the three $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund 3-year-old filly trot prelims at Dover Downs on Wednesday.
Form held in each of the three DSBF prelims. Ms. Virginia, recently re-acquired by Lloyd Arnold, of Dover, Del., won the fastest division as Tony Morgan piloted the CR Commando filly to a 2:00.1 victory. It was her fifth consecutive win including last fall's $100,000 DSBF freshman final. Neverenough Rusty, with Brad Hanners, finished second and the royally bred-Mia Stellina, a three-quarter sister to the great CR Kay Suzie, was third with Rod Allen driving.
Mist Stable's Twilight Mist held off a serious bid from Devilish Miss and Brandon Givens to post a 2:00.3 win in her prelim. Jim Thompson drove the CR Commando filly to her second victory in three starts this year and sixth in nine lifetime races. Sammi Punk and Jim Morand was third.
Morand drove Molly McGuire to her first lifetime win, a 2:01.4 triumph, in the other $20,000 division for Joe and Ursula Ayd and trainer Betsy Brown. Super Snappy led through the early part of the race for Kim Vincent and finished second. Star Commando with Tim Tetrick took show money.
The DSBF prelims move into second leg next week. The colt and filly pacers race on Monday, while the colt trotters return on Wednesday and trotting fillies on Thursday. The top eight make the $110,000 finals. (Dover)
