Three divisions of the New Jersey Sire Stakes for 3-year-old colt pacers were contested Saturday evening at the Meadowlands Racetrack. In pursuit of a training triple, Noel Daley found success only with Ideal Matters, who under the guidance of Brian Sears won the $25,500 first division in 1:49.4.
The son of Western Ideal commanded the lead past the half-mile marker and accelerated away to a 2 1/4-length tally. Owned by Brittany Farms, Adam Victor & Son Stable, Melvin Hartman and Island View Partners, Ideal Matters is eligible to the $1 million Meadowlands Pace on July 17.
Another Meadowlands Pace eligible, Shoobee's Place pulled a 25-1 upset in the $26,100 second division of the New Jersey Sire Stakes. With David Miller in the sulky, he captured his first win of the season in a lifetime-best 1:49.2. The son of Artsplace is owned by David H McDuffee and trained by Richard Norman. Defending Breeders Crown champion All Speed Hanover finished fourth in his 2010 debut.
AJ Corbelli and driver George Brennan claimed the $25,500 third division by a neck in 1:49.3. Anatolia Racing Stable owns the son of Rocknroll Hanover. AJ Corbelli posted his fifth win in 13 career starts for trainer Jacob Hartline.
